Donald Trump interested in online poker

It goes without saying that the online poker world is attracting more and more big names from the business world. For instance, we recently had news that Bernard Tapie of Groupe Bernard Tapie has acquired Full Tilt Poker from the US Department of Justice for $80 million. And now another tycoon is trying his hand at online poker, namely Donald Trump.

Donald Trump has made public his intention of teaming up with the billionaire and finance wiz Marc Lasry into forming a undertaking in the the world of online poker. They are very hopeful for the US legalization of online poker to become a reality very soon. The hope comes from a recent congressional hearing on internet poker on how a regulatory process can protect customers.

Those in favor of the legalization of online poker put forward the fact that about $6 billion is spent every year by Americans on offshore gambling when all those funds could easily stay within the US, should such legislation be passed.

Trump and Lasry are positive that such a move will happen in a very near future. And if their wish comes true, they will both be launching the biggest internet gaming company in the US. Trump has already taken care of getting the required gambling licenses and the funding of the business would be provided by Lasry.

Trump has experience in the casino business, with its land based casinos. However, he had to file for bankruptcy three times already. Lasry is well known in the poker world as being a hardcore fan. So the collaboration of those two high profile individuals could well stir up the online poker business as we know it today and provide competition to the existing status quo. That can only be a good thing for poker players and as we know, when Mr Trump is involved it can only be a good thing.
